Aandakiiwan: The Seasons Change, at Watermark Art Gallery, brings together monotype scrolls, sunrise photography printed on ledger paper, and a deconstructed ribbon skirt installation — a body of work centered on the turning of seasons and what changes with them
Artist Statement
Aandakiiwan explores the quiet, profound way life shifts with the seasons. Working in monotype on ledger paper, this exhibition draws on sweetgrass, yarrow, sage, and other traditional medicines — plants that carry both physical presence and spiritual weight in Ojibwe culture — pressed and printed directly into each piece.
The show unfolds across three installations. Four scrolls, one for each season, hold the monotype prints, each carrying the imprint of the plants gathered and used in that time of year. A second piece gathers sunrise photographs taken across several seasons, printed onto ledger paper, tracing how light itself changes as the year turns. The third installation reimagines the ribbon skirt as a kind of weather blanket — each row or ribbon marking a day, a week, a month, building a record of time the way the blankets are made: one entry at a time, until a whole year takes shape.
Together, the works ask viewers to slow down and notice what usually passes unmarked — the turning of a season, the color of a sunrise, the accumulation of ordinary days into a life.

Fauna Vitae
Fauna Vitae
EXHIBIT September 1 – November 30, 2026
Animals have served as central subjects in art since the dawn of human creativity. In prehistoric times, cave paintings featured vivid depictions of bulls and horses, reflecting a deep spiritual connection to the natural world. In more recent eras, animals often symbolized human virtues, vices, or social status. In contemporary art, animals are often used to explore deeper ecological and philosophical themes. Artists use them to comment on environmental destruction, captivity, and the blurry line between humans and nature. Animals in art are like a mirror for human emotion, culture, and our changing relationship with the living world.

Doyle Turner premieres "Inland"
MAHNOMEN, Minn. - Anishinaabe artist Doyle Turner is coming home, and he’s introducing his new album to its place of origin. On Friday, Nov. 13th, the Gizhiigan Arts Incubator in Mahnomen, MN will host the premiere of the songs for Turner’s new recording “Inland.” Turner’s band, “The Sweet Beans,” featuring the musicians who recorded the album, will perform with him that night. His brother, musician Steve Turner, will play an opening set. The show begins at 7:00 p.m., is free, and is open to all ages.
Turner grew up in Naytahwaush, MN - at the very heart of the White Earth Reservation: bike trails, endless days spent in the outdoors, a tight-knit family, and one stop sign at the top of the hill, Turner’s ”little town tucked back in the woods” became the inspiration for a new album after he saw an art show based on the people of his hometown. Naytahwaush visual artist Kent Estey’s show “Naytahwaush; Faces, Stories and Artists Exhibition” was first displayed at Gizhiigan in the Spring of 2024. Turner said, “Seeing all of the people I knew from my childhood featured as creators really made me realize how influential that town and those people were on me and my music.”
The new record features Dan Schwartz (Neighborhood Quartet), Nate Lebrun (Humbird, Bad Bad Hats, Squinny), Matthew Blake (Gentleman’s Anti Temperance League) and Sarah Morris (Sarah Morris and the Sometimes Guys) with appearances by Nikki Lemire, Kai Brewster, and Cameron Kinghorn. The songs are infused with the sound of 70s and early 80s country and rock and roll with a healthy dose of the Turner family 8-track and vinyl collection. “Inland” was produced by Sarah Morris.
A 2026 Dylan Fest Songwriting Contest Winner, a 2025 Great River Folk Festival Songwriting Contest First Runner Up ,and a 2023 Red Lodge Songwriting Contest Finalist, Turner released his previous album, “Paper Maps," in late 2024.
Mpls.St.Paul Magazine wrote, "Turner creates from the heart without filter or pretense,” and named the title track to its Best New Songs from October 2024 in its “Minnesota Playlist October” feature.

Needle Felted Landscapes with Kristi Koziolek
Times: Class A: 9 am - 12 pm • Class B: 2 -5 pm
Location: Bagley Public Library, 79 Spencer Ave. SW Bagley, Minnesota
Class Limit: 15 each class
Cost: $70
In this 3-hour class, we’ll walk through step by step how to create an 8”x10” needle felted landscape ready to be framed- no experience necessary! From creating a compelling composition to “mixing” colors to creating different shapes & textures to execute your ideas, I’ll demonstrate general needle felting techniques to get started then we’ll experiment and play together!
Bring an image or two of a landscape that you’d like to create in wool or a sketch to work from. I recommend having a couple to choose from, in case one ends up working better than the other. It works well to have the photo either printed or on an ipad or something. You can also have it on your phone. Another option is a sketch if you’d like to work from your imagination.
When selecting the reference photo, I’ve learned a couple of things:
Keep the shapes simple. If the photo is too detailed, it’s difficult to execute efficiently in wool. I like sunsets, clouds, rolling hills, fields, lakes and photos with distinct horizons and big shapes. Trees are fun, but easy to get lost in, so it’s best to limit their quantity. Reflections on water can be challenging.
Feel free to take elements from multiple photos: a sky from this photo, a lake scene from a different photo.
A landscape painting, an image in your mind, a sketch or working abstractly also work great!
For now, please choose a nature scene that does not include buildings, people, animals or similar.
Instructor is bringing all the supplies.
